Weekly Marketing Rundown - November. 1st, 2024

Hi everyone, In this week's edition of Kavanah Media's Weekly Marketing Rundown we will discuss Meta's secret roll out of automatic ad adjustments, Instagram's throttle of video quality, Youtube's new stickers and more.

Meta’s New AI Search Engine

Meta is developing an AI-powered search engine to provide users with more direct answers to their questions. Currently, Meta’s AI Chat, available on all its platforms, relies on Google and Microsoft for web searches. However, Meta intends to shift away from these external search engines and use its own so as to not be dependent.

This shift highlights the importance of mission teams maintaining their own websites. As Meta’s AI Chat improves its functionality and access to the open web, mission teams’ evangelistic websites could become more accessible to seekers searching for spiritual content. Having an up to date accurate website and allowing your website to be indexed by both search engine and AI bots may enable AI tools to incorporate your content with those asking faith-related questions.

Meta’s Automatic Ad Adjustments

Meta is introducing automatic adjustments to ad accounts, allowing its system to tweak ad settings like pausing campaigns, consolidating ad accounts and audience segments, targeting, and even budgeting without notifying users. These adjustments aim to improve ad performance by responding to how audiences interact with ads in real-time. However, some marketers worry that this automation may reduce control over campaigns and affect ad goals.

For mission teams using Meta ads to reach people online, this could be a helpful tool but also a potential challenge. Automatic adjustments might improve ad effectiveness. However, less control over targeting could mean that ads are shown to unintended audiences, which could reduce campaign effectiveness.

Staying informed on how Meta’s system adjusts your ads and setting clear objectives will be key to maximizing impact.

Instagram’s Video Quality Adjustments

Instagram is now lowering video quality for less popular posts to reduce data costs, focusing higher resolution on content with more views. This could limit visibility for smaller accounts and less popular posts.

For mission teams, this means that videos with fewer initial views might appear in lower quality, which could affect engagement. Changes like this continue to make organic campaigns challenging. While organic posting is important, paid advertising should not be overlooked, as it can help ensure mission messages reach audiences with optimal quality and visibility.

YouTube’s New Poll Stickers and Ad Controls

YouTube has introduced poll stickers for Shorts, allowing creators to engage viewers with interactive polls. Additionally, channels can now block specific ad categories, giving them more control over the ads displayed alongside their content.

For mission teams, poll stickers can foster audience interaction on faith topics, while blocking unwanted ad categories helps maintain a focused message. These features offer valuable tools for enhancing engagement and clarity on YouTube.

Weekly Marketing Rundown - December 6th, 2024 Hi everyone! In this week's edition of Kavanah Media's Weekly Marketing Rundown we will discuss using Youtube's new creative tools, WhatsApp dropping of older devices, Reddit's international goals and more.  YouTube’s New AI Tools Aim to Beat Creative Blocks YouTube is testing AI-powered tools to help creators brainstorm video ideas, draft scripts, and generate image or voice assets. These features aim to streamline the content creation process and assist creators who may struggle with creative blocks or need to speed up production. For mission teams, these tools could be a game-changer for producing their own engaging, Gospel-centered content efficiently. By using AI to generate ideas and assets, teams can maintain a steady flow of content, especially when inspiration runs low. https://www.searchenginejournal.com/youtube-previews-ai-tools-to-overcome-creative-blocks/533862/   WhatsApp to Drop Support for Older iPhones in May 2025 Starting May 2025, WhatsApp will no longer work on iPhones running iOS 14 or earlier. Users with older devices like the iPhone 6 or earlier models will no longer be able to utilize WhatsApp. Mission teams that have integrated WhatsApp into their digital engagement efforts may see a large drop in messages from users with older devices. If older devices are common in the field they are serving, strategies may have to be adjusted. https://www.macrumors.com/2024/12/02/whatsapp-drop-support-older-iphones-may-2025/   Meta Shares How AI Tools Improve Ad Performance Meta’s data claims that ads using its AI-powered tools perform significantly better. For example, campaigns using Advantage+ shopping ads saw a 32% increase in return on ad spend. Additionally, advertisers using AI-powered creative tools noted a 7% boost in conversion rates. These features optimize ad placement and designs, making them more engaging and effective. In our own testing Advantage+ Audiences has indeed led to lower costs and better performance. It is possible that these Advantage+ creative tools could bring similar performance increases. However, we have yet to be able to confirm this in our testing. It should also be noted that tools such as the text improvements could heavily alter your ad copy and do not always perform well in languages other than English. Teams should test these tools before rolling them out at scale. Several of these tools were addressed in episode 270 of our Christian Media Marketing Podcast. You can watch/listen to that here. https://www.socialmediatoday.com/news/meta-shares-insight-into-the-performance-of-its-ai-based-ad-elements/734328/   Reddit Targets Global Growth in Key Markets Reddit is expanding in the UK, India, Brazil, and the Philippines to grow its international user base. It’s focusing on localizing content and increasing language support to better engage users in these regions. As Reddit improves accessibility with translations, it could be a valuable platform to test for digital engagement strategies, especially in regions with growing online communities. https://techcrunch.com/2024/11/28/reddit-looks-to-uk-india-brazil-and-the-philippines-to-spur-international-growth/ Meta Expands Traffic Campaign Options Meta now allows advertisers to target Facebook, Instagram, or both, in Traffic campaigns as a conversion location. Previously, one could only select an Instagram profile. This update is being rolled out slowly. https://www.jonloomer.com/qvt/facebook-conversion-location-for-traffic-campaigns/ Intentional - Kavanah Media's Newsletter Subscribe to Intentional, Kavanah’s monthly newsletter, and stay inspired by stories of lives transformed, ministry milestones, and the latest business updates on how we’re intentionally leveraging digital platforms to make God known across the globe. Meta Introduces AI-Edited Video Ads on Facebook and Instagram: Key Tools for Teams Meta has rolled out new AI-powered tools for video ads on Facebook and Instagram, making content creation more streamlined. These tools include automatic video trimming, scene selection, and format adjustments for different placements. Key features also include a video expansion tool, which resizes videos to fit various formats, an auto music tool that selects background music, and an image animation tool that brings static images to life with simple animations. Truth be told, Kavanah Media team members have seen these tools being quietly rolled out for some time. They have allowed for quicker creation of multiple ad variations, allowing images and videos to be shown in more ad placements. While Google remains the leading search engine, these rising alternatives are attracting users with innovative features that enhance search experiences. For teams, this trend emphasizes the need to diversify digital strategies. As users turn to platforms like TikTok for search, teams should adapt their SEO and content strategies to maintain visibility across various channels.  For more on this, click the link below: https://www.yahoo.com/?err=404&err_url YouTube Expands Shorts Length and Adds Templates: What Teams Should Know In order to compete with TikTok, YouTube is increasing the maximum length of Shorts and adding new video templates. This move allows creators to produce longer short-form content while using templates to streamline video creation. For teams, these updates mean greater flexibility in crafting short videos to engage audiences. With longer content and easy-to-use templates, creating videos should be even easier.  For more on this, click the link below:  https://www.theverge.com/2024/10/3/24260170/youtube-shorts-increased-length-templates-tiktok WhatsApp's New Contact-Saving Feature: What Teams Should Know WhatsApp is testing a feature that lets users save contacts directly within the app without storing them on their phone. If adopted this could simplify contact management for teams and offer some privacy benefits. For teams the advantages include: 1. Privacy: Contacts can be stored within the app, reducing the need to save personal numbers on your phone. 2. Efficiency: Easier access and management of contacts within WhatsApp itself. 3. Clutter-Free: Keep work-related contacts separate from personal ones without filling up your phone directory. This update can streamline communication and improve privacy, especially for teams in sensitive environments. The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) stated that platforms like Facebook cannot use all personal data without restrictions on time or type, meaning only a small portion of Meta's data pool will be permitted for advertising, even with user consent. Rulings like this are already affecting audience targeting. As data privacy laws tighten, advertisers will likely have less and less access for audience targeting. Teams may need to change their marketing strategies as a result.
