Weekly Marketing Rundown - March 21, 2026

Welcome to this week’s edition of Kavanah Media’s Weekly Marketing Rundown! We’re diving into the latest updates you need to know, including changes to Meta, new country-specific fees for marketing, MFA, data laws, and more.

Updates to Meta

Meta is now adding extra fees for ads shown to people in certain countries to cover local digital taxes. It is also testing a new feature that lets you describe your audience in simple terms, with AI automatically suggesting the best interests and behaviors to target.

For Mission Teams

These new location fees mean your advertising budget might not go as far in specific regions, so you must plan for these extra costs in your digital strategy.

The update to interest and detailed targeting is capturing the attention of marketers worldwide. For some time, Meta has limited marketers’ ability to use detailed targeting, instead relying on its algorithm. Teams are encouraged to test this new feature, although it is likely to serve only as a “suggestion,” similar to the previous iteration.

Meta Location Fees by Country

The following fees are added to your bill based on where your ads are delivered:

Austria: 5%

Türkiye: 5%

France: 3%

Italy: 3%

Spain: 3%

United Kingdom: 2%

Signal App Face Blur for Secure Photos

Signal includes a built-in image editor that can automatically detect and blur faces in photos before you send them or save them to your device. This feature uses local on-device processing to ensure that unedited versions of your photos are never sent to a server or seen by anyone else.

For Mission Teams

This tool is vital for protecting the identity of seekers and local believers in sensitive regions where digital surveillance is a high risk. Teams can leverage this tool, but it is recommended to always manually check the image before sending.

Data Privacy and Digital Missions Compliance

Data privacy laws, such as the GDPR in the European Union, the LPDP in North Macedonia, and U.S. data laws, regulate the handling of personal information. These laws are designed to protect individuals’ data and include stipulations regarding data breach handling, required data security measures, data sovereignty, consent, and more. While the specifics of these regulations can vary significantly by region and impact marketers and mission teams differently, one constant remains: marketers are responsible for ensuring that their data governance, marketing practices, and platforms comply with these laws.

For Mission Teams

Mission teams, agencies, and local churches using digital strategies are also likely to have exposure to these laws. In some jurisdictions, the costs of non-compliance are enough to bankrupt many mission agencies. Teams should review how local data privacy laws may affect their digital engagement projects and take steps to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.

Has Your Team Enable MFA?

Multi-Factor Authentication, or MFA, acts like a second lock for your digital accounts to keep them safe. It requires a code from your phone, an app, a message, or a USB security key after you enter your password to verify that it is really you.

For Mission Teams

Using MFA is critical because it prevents attackers from taking over your social media ads or accessing sensitive conversations with seekers, even if they steal your password. Without this extra layer, a single hacked account could lead to financial loss, the deletion of years of ministry work, or the exposure of vulnerable contacts in high-risk regions.

Priority Platforms to Secure

To ensure your team is fully protected, please verify that MFA is enabled on the following platforms:

Social Media: Facebook Business Suite, Instagram, X, and YouTube.

Ministry Tools: Echo Global and Disciple.Tools instances.

Core Systems: Organization email and website administrative logins.

Financials: Any accounts linked to ad spend or donation processing.

We Are Here to Help

The Kavnaah Media team is committed to the safety and success of your digital outreach. If you need assistance setting up MFA or auditing your team's security settings, we are happy to help you walk through the process. Please reach out here

Meta Buys MoltBook

Meta has officially acquired Moltbook, a unique social media platform designed entirely for artificial intelligence agents to interact without human interference. On this site, thousands of bots created by developers, engaged in "synthetic social theater," where they debated topics, shared digital art, and even formed automated communities to see how AI evolves in a social ecosystem.

For Mission Teams

AI continues to develop rapidly and is being actively promoted by major digital platforms. Meta's recent acquisition is just another step in this progression. Changes are inevitable, and teams utilizing digital engagement strategies must be ready to learn, adapt their approaches, and prepare for the new risks that AI may introduce.

Google Ads Expands In-Platform Creative Assets

Google Ads is introducing a major update that allows advertisers to access "rich media" assets like photos, videos, and 3D models directly within the platform. Additionally, automatic YouTube channel linking and AI-generated voice-overs for video ads, similar to Creative Enhancements on Meta, are also being rolled out.

For Mission Teams

These automated tools allow your team to create professional-looking ads more easily. However, as with all AI tools, teams should carefully review these assets to ensure the message remains culturally sensitive and theologically accurate for the seekers they are trying to reach.

Echo Global CRM and TikTok Integration

Echo Global has launched a new TikTok integration that allows teams to manage video comments directly within the Echo platform. Once connected, your team can read, reply to, and track interactions from the “Social Media” area, including the ability to manually import older videos by URL.

It is important to note that the TikTok integration currently supports only comment management. It does not support full inbox management. Teams wanting to leverage TikTok for engagement campaigns will still need to handle messages on the TikTok platform itself.

For Mission Teams

Many teams have reported high engagement via TikTok. This new integration could make it easier for teams to integrate TikTok into their larger digital strategy systems.

Instagram Ends Encrypted Messaging Feature

Meta has announced it will discontinue the option for end-to-end encrypted direct messages on Instagram starting May 8. The company stated that very few users utilized this specific security feature and is encouraging those who need high privacy to move their conversations to WhatsApp instead.

For Mission Teams

This change significantly reduces the security of your communication with seekers on Instagram, as your messages will no longer be hidden from the platform or potential surveillance. Additionally, using Instagram for sensitive or internal communications is not recommended.

Weekly Marketing Rundown - August 21, 2026 Welcome to this week’s edition of Kavanah Media’s Weekly Marketing Rundown! We’re diving into the latest updates you need to know including changes to Google Search Ad Language targeting, Youtube Picture ads, new data privacy laws and more. Enjoying the Weekly Marketing Rundown? Support our work and keep it free for missions teams worldwide: https://www.kavanahmedia.com/donatetoKM Google Ads Retires Campaign-Level Language Targeting Google is updating its search ads by removing the setting that lets advertisers manually choose specific languages. Instead, Google's automated systems will now match people to ads based on the languages they already read and speak. For Mission Teams Mission teams leveraging Search Campaigns must ensure their digital ad text and landing pages are perfectly translated into their target audience's exact language. Because automated delivery could expose outreach campaigns to unintended or hostile groups, ministries must closely monitor their search traffic to protect their security and digital engagement strategies. https://www.searchenginejournal.com/google-is-removing-language-targeting-from-search-campaigns/585592/ OpenAI Introduces Carousel Ads to ChatGPT OpenAI is now letting companies show a scrolling list of products in their ChatGPT ads. This new format helps businesses display multiple items side-by-side to catch the attention of users chatting with the AI. For Mission Teams Mission teams could use these scrolling ads to share a variety of outreach resources, like scripture links and videos, in one engaging placement. https://digiday.com/marketing/openai-brings-product-carousels-to-chatgpt-ads/ New AI Disclosure Laws Reshape Digital Marketing New laws in Europe and California now require businesses to clearly label any pictures, videos, or sounds created by artificial intelligence. This means marketers must use special digital tags so that people always know when online content is computer-generated. For Mission Teams To safely find seekers and make disciples, mission teams operating in these jurisdictions must follow these new transparency rules whenever using artificial intelligence to create media for their digital evangelism campaigns. By honestly labeling their outreach content, ministries can build vital trust with cautious audiences while protecting their operational security from legal penalties or platform bans. https://www.thedrum.com/news/ai-disclosure-laws-arrive-in-the-eu-and-california-what-do-they-mean-for-marketers YouTube Mobile Tests New Overlay Picture Ads YouTube is testing new picture ads that pop up over the screen while people watch videos sideways on their phones. These still images appear every few minutes without stopping the video, giving advertisers a new way to show their messages. For Mission Teams Mission teams can use these new picture ads to add even more creative diversity to their add strategies on YouTube. https://ppcnewsfeed.com/ppc-news/2026-08/youtube-tests-image-ads-horizontal-mobile-playback/ New WhatsApp Security Warning System for Unverified Messages WhatsApp is testing a warning system to alert users when receiving messages from unverified contacts. The alert helps users identify potential scams before replying to unfamiliar accounts. For Mission Teams This new safety alert helps protect field workers from falling for phishing attempts on WhatsApp. However, new seekers contacting your ministry account for the first time may also see this security prompt. https://engineering.fb.com/2026/08/12/security/how-were-building-scam-alert-whatsapp/ Apple Issues Critical Spyware Threat Notifications Apple is alerting targeted iPhone users about sophisticated spyware attacks that could compromise their devices. These push notifications serve as critical warnings that hackers are actively attempting to steal personal information from specific individuals. For Mission Teams Particularly important for teams operating in sensitive fields with a high risk of nation-state interference, Apple’s security alerts should be taken seriously to protect digital networks and sensitive contacts. By securing devices immediately when warned, ministries can help prevent hostile actors from accessing their outreach campaigns and compromising their disciple-making efforts. https://techcrunch.com/2026/08/13/if-apple-sends-you-a-push-notification-alerting-you-to-a-spyware-attack-take-it-seriously/ Rise of Relatability Trends in Social Video Marketing Recent social media trends show that unpolished, relatable video content is outperforming high-budget advertisements. Audiences favor simple personal stories over formal corporate promotions. For Mission Teams Authentic videos recorded on a phone by real believers will likely connect better than expensive studio videos. Simple, honest video testimony builds trust faster with seekers browsing social media. https://bluehaloagency.com/news/social-media-trends-august-2026/ WhatsApp Introduces Usernames for Private Messaging WhatsApp is updating its app to let people save and use usernames instead of phone numbers. This change will soon allow users to chat with new contacts without sharing their personal phone details. For Mission Teams This is just the latest update related to WhatsApps' shift to usernames. Mission teams can use these new usernames to safely connect with seekers without revealing their real phone numbers. This update improves operational security while making it easier to share the gospel and disciple people in hostile areas. https://wabetainfo.com/whatsapp-launches-a-username-field-for-new-contacts/ YouTube Transforms Search with Conversational AI Chatbot YouTube is releasing a new tool across all devices that lets users ask questions and get helpful answers instead of just a list of videos. This smart chat feature remembers what you are talking about and acts more like a personal assistant than a regular search bar. For Mission Teams Ministries should closely monitor how their videos are tagged to ensure that artificial intelligence correctly identifies and recommends their biblical resources as potential seekers use the new integrated AI search feature. https://www.socialmediatoday.com/news/youtube-expands-access-to-its-in-app-ai-chatbot/827757/ Understanding Video View Counts Across Different Platforms Social media apps have very different rules for what they count as a video view. While some apps count a view the second a video starts, others require someone to watch for several seconds before it counts. Here are some examples: Facebook Reels: organic views count after just 1+ millisecond. Instagram Reels: organic views count as soon as a video starts or replays. YouTube: from 24 August, public views count from the first frame. YouTube Shorts: public views count immediately, including replays. TikTok: views count as soon as the video starts. YouTube ads: many only count after 30 seconds or an interaction. For Mission Teams Mission teams must understand these different rules so they can accurately track how many seekers are actually watching their digital evangelism videos. See the full list put together by Axios below: https://www.axios.com/media-trends-membership/2026/08/18/youtube-video-views Google Data Studio Adds New Reporting and Design Tools Google Data Studio updated its platform to make creating and viewing reports much easier. Users can now expand charts to full screen, copy visuals as pictures, and customize their report designs. For Mission Teams These design upgrades help ministry teams clearly track and evaluate how seekers engage with their online evangelism campaigns. Better visual reports allow leaders more options when reporting metrics. https://docs.cloud.google.com/data-studio/release-notes Polite Replies to Unknown Texts Can Cost You Replying to a text message from a stranger confirms that your phone number is active and monitored. Criminal syndicates use these polite responses to profile targets and sell verified numbers for higher prices on the dark web. For Mission Teams Workers should avoid responding to unexpected texts from unknown numbers while conducting online ministry. Maintaining strict boundary practices on mobile channels protects team members from targeted social engineering tactics and prevents ministry phone numbers from being further attacked and exploited. https://www.malwarebytes.com/blog/threat-intel/2026/08/your-polite-reply-to-that-text-is-worth-2-on-the-dark-web Mission Media U Practitioner Fellowship We live in a digital world.  But our discipling mandate hasn't changed.  Join our partners at Mission Media U for a two-month practitioner fellowship from 24-September to 19-November-2026 with a focus on Personal Digital Disciple-Making.  Limited seats available.  Submit your application today.   Learn more here: https://www.missionmediau.org/fellowship/ Stay Equipped for Digital Engagement  Looking for ways to use digital tools to grow evangelism and disciple-making? Weekly Marketing Rundown - June 12, 2026
Weekly Marketing Rundown - June 12, 2026 Welcome to this week’s edition of Kavanah Media’s Weekly Marketing Rundown! We’re diving into the latest updates you need to know including a massive Microsoft Patch Tuesday with three zero-day vulnerabilities, sweeping changes to Google Ads tracking, new guidance on Google's Personalized advertising policy, and new AI-powered tools arriving across TikTok and Facebook that mission teams need to understand. Enjoying the Weekly Marketing Rundown? Support our work and keep it free for missions teams worldwide: https://www.kavanahmedia.com/donatetoKM Meta Adds Incognito Mode to WhatsApp's Meta AI Chatbot Meta is adding the ability for WhatsApp users to start private, off-the-record conversations with its built-in Meta AI assistant. These incognito sessions will not be tied to a user's account history or conversation logs. For Mission Teams This feature could increase willingness among seekers in sensitive regions to ask spiritual questions through WhatsApp AI without fear of it being recorded. Teams building WhatsApp-based outreach funnels should familiarize themselves with how Meta AI responds to faith-related prompts. https://about.fb.com/news/2026/05/incognito-chat-whatsapp-meta-ai/ TikTok Adds Seedance 2.0 AI Video Model to Ad Suite TikTok has integrated ByteDance's Seedance 2.0 AI video generation model into its TikTok Symphony advertising toolkit, allowing advertisers to produce AI-generated video content directly within the platform. The tool can generate clips from text descriptions or reference images. For Mission Teams This lowers the barrier for producing video ad content, which could benefit teams with limited production budgets. Because TikTok is owned by ByteDance, teams should continue using it only on dedicated devices that do not contain sensitive ministry contacts or communications. https://socialbee.com/blog/tiktok-updates/ TikTok Expands Advertiser Reach Through Vistar Media Partnership TikTok has partnered with Vistar Media to extend advertiser placements to over one million locations beyond the app itself. This means TikTok-based campaigns can now appear across a much broader digital out-of-home and programmatic network. For Mission Teams This expansion could increase the visibility of gospel-focused content beyond TikTok's in-app audience, reaching people in public spaces and third-party digital environments. Teams should weigh whether the broader reach justifies the added cost and reduced audience targeting precision. https://www.socialmediatoday.com/topic/tiktok/ Google Ads Removes Manual Override for Consent and Tracking on June 15 Starting June 15, 2026, Google is removing the ability for Google Analytics settings to override Google Ads data collection behavior. If a website's consent banner is not correctly configured by that date, ad reporting, audience building, and return-on-ad-spend measurement could all be affected without any dashboard warning. For Mission Teams Teams running Google Ads campaigns with consent banners on their ministry websites need to verify their tracking setup before June 15. Misconfigurations could result in lost audience data and inaccurate reporting that silently undermines campaign performance. https://www.thedrum.com/profile/launch-online/article/how-google-s-june-2026-change-could-silently-kill-your-ad-tracking-and-what-to-do-about-i-1 Microsoft Patches 206 Vulnerabilities in June 2026 Patch Tuesday, Including Three Zero-Days Microsoft released its June 2026 security updates covering 206 vulnerabilities across Windows, Office, and other products. Three of these were publicly disclosed zero-days, and the update includes fixes for 37 critical-severity issues spanning remote code execution, privilege escalation, and information disclosure. For Mission Teams Teams managing Windows devices for field staff or administrative work should apply these updates immediately, particularly given the active exploitation of several disclosed vulnerabilities. Delaying patches on devices that handle sensitive ministry data or communications creates unnecessary risk. https://www.crowdstrike.com/en-us/blog/patch-tuesday-analysis-june-2026/ Hateful Comments on Facebook Have Quadrupled Since 2025 Facebook Hateful Comments Have Quadrupled Since 2025 A new report from the Center for Countering Digital Hate released June 10, 2026, found that hateful comments on Facebook against US congress members have quadrupled since 20250 when Meta rolled back moderation policies. For Mission Teams While the study focuses primarily on political comments in Western contexts, Meta's rollback of moderation tools could contribute to similar increases in hateful comments worldwide- even in the context of digital engagement. Teams should be prepared to ramp up their own comment moderation efforts and consider enabling automatic filters for harmful language. https://counterhate.com/blog/violent-threats-against-members-of-congress-quadrupled-after-meta-rolled-back-moderation-policies/ Google Updates Advertising Rules for Sensitive Topics Google updated its rules to explain how ads reach people when promoting sensitive topics like health or personal problems. This update does not add new rules, but it explains why some ads might reach fewer people than expected. For Mission Teams If your digital engagement strategy is leveraging Google ads, you likely fall under the Religious Beliefs Policy. Your strategies, content, and ads must comply. Click the second link for more information regarding each policy, possible restrictions, details, and mitigation options. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/google-ads-news-week-23-adriaan-dekker-5rfle/ https://support.google.com/adspolicy/answer/143465?hl=en Yoast AI Content Planner Automates Blog Post Drafts Yoast recently launched an artificial intelligence tool that scans your website to suggest five structured ideas for your next post. This helpful feature saves time and prevents writer's block by automatically building ready-to-write drafts with titles, headings, and notes. For Mission Teams This tool can boost your digital strategy for finding seekers by quickly generating engaging articles that answer common spiritual questions. However, you must carefully review these automated drafts for any sensitive words to maintain strict security while safely making disciples online. https://yoast.com/features/content-planner/ Meta's New Push Delivery Feature Guarantees Ad Views Meta added a new advertising tool that lets you force their system to show a specific ad instead of skipping it. This update gives you direct control over your daily budget to make sure your most important messages are actually seen. For Mission Teams This tool guarantees your digital evangelism ads reach new seekers even when standard social media algorithms try to ignore them. By forcing delivery on specific ads, you can securely test new strategies for making disciples while carefully monitoring audience engagement. https://www.jonloomer.com/hands-on-push-delivery-to-this-ad/ Meta Launches AI Business Agent Globally on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger Meta announced the global availability of its Meta Business Agent on June 3, 2026, at the company's Conversations conference in London. The platform enables businesses of any size to deploy AI-powered agents across WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger. These agents are designed to manage customer conversations, qualify leads, and support sales processes with minimal human involvement. The agent's capabilities include fielding customer inquiries, suggesting products from a catalog, scheduling appointments, vetting sales leads, and completing transactions, with a handoff mechanism that lets the agent escalate to a live employee once conversations reach a point that the owner defines. For Mission Teams According to Meta, businesses are already using a Meta Business Agent on WhatsApp and Messenger to respond to customers. It is yet to be extensively tested in a mission digital engagement strategy context, but there is potential it could prove very beneficial. Members of the Kavanah Media team hope to begin testing shortly. Teams are encouraged to test the tool cautiously, as AI can, and still does, hallu https://techcrunch.com/2026/06/03/metas-ai-agent-for-whatsapp-business-is-now-available-globally/ Instagram Hack Highlights AI Security Risks Hackers tricked a new artificial intelligence tool to steal thousands of important Instagram accounts by changing their private email addresses. Even though personal information was stolen, the company plans to fix the mistake without slowing down their new technology. For Mission Teams This security failure shows why your team must carefully protect the social media accounts you use to find seekers online. You must secure your digital evangelism profiles with strong passwords and extra safety steps to safely continue making disciples without losing access to your audience. It also shows how bad actors are leveraging AI to exploit weaknesses at unprecedented levels, and how those same AI tools introduce vulnerabilities. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/09/technology/instagram-hack-ai-bug.html Stay Equipped for Digital Engagement  Looking for ways to use digital tools to grow evangelism and disciple-making?
