Using Biometric Locks to Secure WhatsApp Messages

WhatsApp offers an App Lock feature that requires a face scan or fingerprint to open the application. You can find this security setting by going to Privacy under the Settings menu.

For Mission Teams

This physical security layer could be useful for protecting the identities and conversations of seekers in high-risk areas. Even if a phone is confiscated or borrowed, your evangelism data remains safe behind biometric encryption.

Choosing Between Original Audiences and Value Rules

Meta used to rely mostly on Original Audiences, where you manually picked every detail about who saw your ads, including age, gender, and detailed targeting. Now, the system prefers using Advantage+ targeting to automatically find audiences—taking away most advertiser control. Members of the Kavanah Team have seen lower costs and strong performance with Meta’s Advantage+ tools, but there are times when some control is necessary. Thankfully, Value Rules allow for some semblance of control.

For Mission Teams

Teams can leverage Value Rules similarly to how Original Audience controls work. For example, a team running Meta ads in the Middle East may want to target by gender—showing ads only to women. Instead of using Original Audience controls and risking potential performance limitations and cost increases, teams could enable a Value Rule where the bid for men is reduced by 90%. Value Rules can be built at the ad set level or within Advertising Settings in Meta Ads Manager.

1.2 Million Accounts Exposed in French Bank Data Breach

A major security breach recently exposed the personal information of over one million people linked to a French banking registry. Hackers gained access to sensitive details, including names and contact information, putting many individuals at risk of targeted scams.

For Mission Teams

This is a good reminder for teams that strong cybersecurity habits are a must. If breaches like this can happen to major civil and banking institutions, they can happen to mission teams operating in sensitive locations. Teams should manage users and permissions, utilize password managers and MFA, and consider options for endpoint protection, such as Microsoft Defender.

Manus AI and Meta - Revisited

As mentioned last week, Meta has started featuring Manus AI within the Ads Manager Tools menu to help users with research and automation tasks. While it currently redirects users to a separate paid interface, this signals a future in which AI agents manage complex advertising workflows.

For Mission Teams

Revisiting last week’s post about Manus, it turns out this is neither a full integration nor a free service that Meta has added. It is a paid subscription. Keep an eye on this.

Google AI Expansion for Demand Gen and PMax

Google Ads is shifting Lookalike audiences from strict targeting filters to flexible signals that allow AI to reach people beyond your specific lists—much like Meta’s Advantage+ audience targeting. Additionally, new previews show that the system will automatically pull and use images from your landing pages for Performance Max campaigns.

For Mission Teams

These AI-driven expansions may help your ads reach interested people you might have otherwise missed, but they also reduce your direct control over who sees your content. Teams must monitor these “signals” closely to ensure ads are not accidentally shown to hostile groups or in regions where digital safety is especially critical.

Fake Captcha: How to Detect and Stay Safe Online

Cybercriminals are using fake CAPTCHA tests to trick people into downloading harmful software onto their computers. These fake tests look like legitimate “I am not a robot” boxes but actually execute dangerous commands when clicked.

For Mission Teams

This threat is critical because mission teams often operate in high-risk areas where digital security is directly tied to physical safety. If a team member’s device is compromised while running social media ads or engaging with seekers, it could expose sensitive contact lists and strategic communications to hostile actors.

Teams should be cautious when encountering CAPTCHA prompts and verify their legitimacy. If a CAPTCHA requires anything beyond a simple puzzle, it is likely fraudulent. Legitimate CAPTCHA tests will never ask users to scan QR codes, visit external links, download files, or execute command prompts.

Instagram Comes to Google TV

Instagram is now available as an app on Google TV devices so people can watch Reels on their television screens. Users can scroll through their feeds and watch videos that are automatically organized into different categories.

For Mission Teams

This update allows mission content to reach people in their living rooms on much larger screens. Teams should consider how their ads look on a TV and be aware that public viewing might change how seekers interact with sensitive gospel messages.

AWS Launches Real-Time Vertical Video AI

Amazon Web Services created a new tool call Elemental Interface that automatically turns wide horizontal videos into tall vertical videos for phones. This system uses artificial intelligence to find the most important parts of a video and crop them instantly without needing a person to do the work. It can be leveraged in realtime by both streamers and broadcasters.

For Mission Teams

This technology makes it even easier for large streamers and broadcasters to leverage the video formats popular on social media platforms. Primarily designed and priced for larger organizations, it remains out of reach for most mission teams, but it demonstrates just how common vertical formats are becoming. Teams should incorporate vertical formats into their own projects to improve engagement.

Weekly Marketing Rundown - May 1, 2026 Welcome to this week’s edition of Kavanah Media’s Weekly Marketing Rundown! We’re diving into the latest updates you need to know including Türkiye's latest control over social media, major telecom network exploitation, WhatsApp updates and more. Enjoying the Weekly Marketing Rundown? Support our work and keep it free for missions teams worldwide: https://www.kavanahmedia.com/donatetoKM Turkey to Ban Anonymous VPNs and Mandate Social Media ID Checks The Turkish government is planning to ban anonymous VPN services and require all social media users to verify their identities using national ID numbers. These measures aim to eliminate online anonymity, allowing authorities to monitor digital activity and link every social media post to a specific person. For Mission Teams Mandatory identity checks and VPN bans create severe security risks for digital evangelists and seekers by making all online interactions traceable to real-world identities. All of these potential changes make decrease audience sizes and increase risk local teams may have to face https://reclaimthenet.org/turkey-to-ban-anonymous-vpns https://stockholmcf.org/turkey-proposes-mandatory-identity-checks-for-social-media-raising-press-freedom-concerns/ Covert Surveillance Actors Exploiting Global Telecom Networks Sophisticated surveillance groups are exploiting vulnerabilities in global mobile networks to track people's locations without them knowing. These actors use hidden commands and fake identities to turn mobile phones into tracking beacons that stay active for years. For Mission Teams This invisible tracking poses a major security threat to teams with digital evangelists and seekers who are meeting in high-risk areas. Mission teams must prioritize high-security communication apps that bypass standard mobile network protocols to protect their strategic movements and the safety of new disciples. https://citizenlab.ca/research/uncovering-global-telecom-exploitation-by-covert-surveillance-actors/ Windows Security Protection Failure A new vulnerability has been identified in Microsoft Windows that allows attackers to bypass important security protections. CISA has added this flaw to its list of known exploited vulnerabilities and urges immediate patching. For Mission Teams Attackers could use this flaw to gain deeper access to your computers and steal sensitive ministry data. Ensure all team laptops and Windows devices are updated immediately to prevent unauthorized access to your files. https://www.cisa.gov/news-events/alerts/2026/04/28/cisa-adds-two-known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog WhatsApp Support Ending for Older Phones WhatsApp has announced it will stop working on older Android phones running versions 5.0 and 5.1 by September 2026. Users on these devices are already receiving alerts to upgrade their software or hardware to maintain access. For Mission Teams Many seekers in developing regions still use older smartphones and may lose the ability to contact your team via WhatsApp. You should check which devices your local partners use and prepare for a potential shift to other messaging apps in those areas. https://in.mashable.com/tech/109058/whatsapp-support-ending-soon-for-these-older-android-phones-is-your-device-on-the-list Instagram Story Voice-Over Feature Instagram is developing a built-in feature that allows users to record voice-overs directly within the Story builder. This simplifies the process of adding narration to your visual content without using external apps. For Mission Teams Adding a personal voice to your stories can make your ministry feel more authentic and approachable to seekers. This tool allows team members to quickly share a spoken prayer or a short testimony over a photo or video. https://socialbee.com/blog/social-media-news/ Google Video Content Exclusion Settings Google has simplified its campaign settings to allow users to exclude their ads from specific types of video content at the customer level. This ensures that your ads do not appear alongside videos that, while legal, may not align with your ministry's values. For Mission Teams Using these exclusions helps protect your ministry's reputation by keeping your ads away from inappropriate or distracting content. It also ensures your budget is spent on placements that are more likely to reach people in a respectful and open frame of mind. http://ads-developers.googleblog.com/2026/ Meta Transitioning from Dynamic Creative to New Creative Workflow Meta is permanently removing the Dynamic Creative feature and replacing it with a more advanced creative workflow. This new system allows users to upload up to ten media files while providing much better data on how each specific image or video performs. For Mission Teams Members of the Kavanah Media team are already leveraging this new feature. It makes it easier than ever to fully leverage creative diversity without having to use Flexible ad format or building multiple ads per ad set.  https://www.jonloomer.com/meta-ads-evolution-important-changes-for-2025/ Google Ads Updates and Trends for 2026 Google has introduced several updates including advanced AI-driven campaign features and more detailed reporting for Performance Max campaigns. These changes focus on automating ad creation while giving marketers better insights into how their budget is being spent. For Mission Teams Improved AI automation helps small mission teams create more effective ads to reach seekers with minimal manual effort. Better reporting tools allow teams to see exactly which audiences are responding to the gospel, ensuring resources are used strategically and securely. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/google-ads-news-week-17-adriaan-dekker-1hwye/ Google Ads Advisor Launches New AI Safety Features Google is enhancing its Ads Advisor tool with three AI-powered features designed to automate security and policy compliance. These updates include proactive troubleshooting for policy violations, continuous account security monitoring, and instant certifications for regulated industries. For Mission Teams These automated tools could help mission teams to more quickly resolve ad rejections and maintain high security for their accounts without constant manual oversight. Proactive monitoring and instant certifications ensure that vital gospel campaigns stay active and protected against unauthorized access or technical roadblocks. https://blog.google/products/ads-commerce/ads-advisor-google-ads/ Foundations of Digital Engagement Strategy Course May 13-16, 2026 (Pre-EMDC Training) Chiang Mai, Thailand This course is for you. Digital permeates virtually every aspect of people's lives and it should be present in every stage of your mission and ministry strategy. Join Kavanah Media staff during the Pre-EMDC training week for a time of practical training in digital engagement. This course is designed for you to examine your end to end strategy and find ways that digital components can be added or improved whether you are just ready to begin or an experienced practitioner. Follow the link or contact us for more details. https://emdcon.org/ Stay Equipped for Digital Engagement  Looking for ways to use digital tools to grow evangelism and disciple-making? Weekly Marketing Rundown - April 3 , 2026
Weekly Marketing Rundown - April 3, 2026 Welcome to this week’s edition of Kavanah Media’s Weekly Marketing Rundown! We’re diving into the latest updates you need to know including Instagram's latest tests, security flaws in TP- Link Routers, Meta and YouTube's latest loss in court and more.  Enjoying the Weekly Marketing Rundown? Support our work and keep it free for missions teams worldwide: https://www.kavanahmedia.com/donatetoKM Social Media Liability Ruling A court recently ruled against Meta and YouTube regarding how they show content to young people. The judge said these companies can be held responsible if their computer programs lead to harm for children. For Mission Teams This legal change could lead to stricter rules for social media ads and how teams find new people online. Teams should be prepared to adjust strategies as companies change in compliance to this developement. https://www.wsj.com/tech/meta-and-youtube-lose-landmark-social-media-trial-33e4c5cb Instagram Plus Meta is testing a new paid subscription service called Instagram Plus in certain countries. This service allows users to pay a small monthly fee to access secret features like watching someone's Story without them knowing. For Mission Teams This update is important because it means people can watch your ministry content without appearing on your viewer list. Teams leveraging stories in their digital strategies may also see a drop in engagement from subscribers. https://9to5mac.com/2026/03/30/meta-testing-paid-instagram-service-that-lets-users-secretly-view-stories/ Critical Security Update for TP-Link Routers TP-Link is urging users to update their internet routers immediately due to a critical security vulnerability. This flaw in the device’s firmware could allow an attacker to gain control of the router without requiring authentication. For Mission Teams This vulnerability poses a significant risk for teams using affected routers, as unauthorized access could enable attackers to monitor internet traffic or disrupt connectivity. Teams should review their hardware and apply the latest security updates as soon as possible to protect sensitive communications and location data. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/tp-link-warns-users-to-patch-critical-router-auth-bypass-flaw/ Performance Max and Data Control Google is giving advertisers more control in Performance Max by allowing them to exclude specific audiences and see exactly which websites are displaying their ads. The company is also introducing “Asset Group Theming,” which uses AI to quickly generate variations of ads tailored to different seasons or events. For Mission Teams While these features are typically used in sales-focused campaigns, they provide mission teams with greater control and improved visibility into their Performance Max campaigns. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/google-ads-news-week-13-adriaan-dekker-bpuje/ AI Ads and Creator Partnerships ChatGPT has reached $100 million in ad revenue, with a new self-serve platform launching in April to allow more advertisers on the app. Meanwhile, Google is integrating YouTube Creator Partnerships into its ads to help brands use authentic videos that increase engagement. For Mission Teams While ChatGPT ads are currently limited to larger marketing companies, if this trend continues and AI platforms become accessible to a broader range of advertisers, these platforms could become highly viable for digital engagement projects. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/google-ads-news-week-13-adriaan-dekker-bpuje/ AI-Powered Audience Targeting Meta is testing a new way to find customers by letting advertisers describe their ideal audience using simple sentences. Instead of picking from a list of interests, the computer uses AI to find the right people based on the description you type in. For Mission Teams This tool allows teams to describe "seekers" or "people interested in spiritual growth" in their own words to reach a more specific group. It should be noted, however, that this feature is still in testing and audience targeting metrics have been treated as mere suggestions by Meta's algorithms for some time now. It is unclear if this tool makes any difference. https://www.jonloomer.com/describe-your-audience-detailed-targeting/ New Social Media Ad Measurement Rules Meta is updating how it measures clicks and engagement on ads to better align with external analytics platforms such as Google Analytics. The company is also lowering the threshold for counting a video view, reducing it from 10 seconds to 5 seconds. For Mission Teams Mission teams will begin to see these metric changes reflected in their Meta ad accounts. Additionally, teams using third-party data aggregation tools like Looker Studio may need to update their reporting configurations to ensure accurate and uninterrupted data tracking. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/google-ads-news-march-recap-adriaan-dekker-xcx3e/ WhatsApp AI and Multi-Account Updates WhatsApp is adding several new features, including an AI assistant that can help you draft replies and edit photos directly in your chats. They are also making it easier to switch between two different accounts on one phone and move your chat history between different types of devices. For Mission Teams The ability to run two accounts on one device is a major security win, allowing team members to keep personal and ministry conversations completely separate. However, the AI writing assistant should be used with caution, as automated suggestions might not always capture the cultural or spiritual sensitivity needed when talking to seekers about deep topics. https://about.fb.com/news/2026/03/whatsapp-new-features-simplify-storage-switch-accounts AI-Powered Video Tools in CapCut ByteDance has integrated its new AI video generation model, Dreamina Seedance 2.0, directly into the CapCut editing app. This tool allows users to create high-quality video clips or expand existing footage simply by typing a text description or using a reference image. For Mission Teams This technology allows teams to create professional-looking gospel presentations and social media ads with very little budget or technical skill. However, using AI-generated content requires extra discernment to ensure the visuals accurately represent the message and remain culturally appropriate for the target audience. Security Disclaimer Because CapCut is owned by ByteDance, there are significant data privacy concerns regarding how user information and uploaded media are handled. It is strongly recommended that mission teams use ByteDance products on a separate, dedicated device that does not contain sensitive ministry data, contact lists, or personal accounts. https://techcrunch.com/2026/03/26/bytedances-new-ai-video-generation-model-dreamina-seedance-2-0-comes-to-capcut/ Fake WhatsApp App Contains Spyware A fraudulent version of WhatsApp was discovered on iOS devices, reportedly developed by a surveillance firm to monitor users. WhatsApp has notified affected users, logged them out of their accounts, and urged them to remove the malicious app immediately to protect their data. For Mission Teams This is a critical reminder that mission teams should only download apps from official app stores and never through third-party links or "beta" invites. Using a fake app could allow outsiders to monitor your private messages, track your location, and identify the seekers you are communicating with in sensitive regions. https://techcrunch.com/2026/04/01/whatsapp-notifies-hundreds-of-users-who-installed-a-fake-app-that-was-actually-government-spyware/ Reddit Ranked as Top Source for AI Answers A new study shows that Reddit is now the most-cited source for AI search tools and chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini. These AI systems are prioritizing authentic, person-to-person discussions and trusted platforms like YouTube and LinkedIn over traditional brand websites. For Mission Teams While primarily relevant in the West, this shift means that the "digital front door" for seekers may be moving away from ministry websites and toward community forums and social platforms. To remain visible, mission teams should consider focusing on building a presence and sharing stories in public digital spaces where seekers are already asking questions and AI is looking for answers. https://www.reddit.com/r/DigitalMarketing/comments/1s5ejpd/reddit_is_now_the_most_cited_source_by_ai/ Foundations of Digital Engagement Strategy Course May 13-16, 2026 (Pre-EMDC Training) Chiang Mai, Thailand This course is for you.
