LastPass Users Targeted by New Phishing Scam

Scammers are sending fake emails that look like they are from LastPass to steal people's passwords. These emails trick users into clicking links that lead to fake websites designed to capture their private login information.

For Mission Teams

This scam is dangerous because it could give hackers access to all the passwords used for mission social media accounts and seeker databases. According to their documentation, LastPass will never sent emails requesting users update or submit their master passwords.

China and US Approve TikTok Spinoff Deal

The United States and China have agreed to a deal that sells TikTok’s American business to a group of mostly U.S. investors. This agreement allows the app to keep running in the U.S. under a new independent company with American leadership.

For Mission Teams

While this change means TikTok is likely to stay in the US, for mission teams abroad utilizing the platform in their digital engagement not much is expected to change. It is a good reminder, however, that platforms are subject to local laws and regulations. Team should be prepared to diversify platforms as insurance against changes and outages.

Google Discover Moves Away from Website Links

Google is changing its Discover feed to show more YouTube videos and posts from X instead of links to news websites. This means people using Google on their phones will see more social media content and AI summaries rather than articles from traditional publishers.

For Mission Teams

This shift is important because it changes how seekers find your content and how your team should share stories. To stay visible, missions teams should not merely rely on websites and SEO, but put effort into organic campaigns by creating engaging YouTube videos and social media posts rather than relying only on website articles to reach people.

Mastering Meta’s Advanced Advertising Settings

Did you know that Meta provides a dedicated Advertising Settings menu where you can manage account-wide controls for your audiences and placements. You can find these tools by navigating to the "Advertising Settings" section within your Meta Ads Manager account.

For Mission Teams

These settings allow you to set age restrictions and regional boundaries to ensure your ads only reach people in safe or relevant areas. By utilizing the "Audience Segments" feature found here, teams can better track how many new seekers are engaging with their content compared to those who have seen it before.

WordPress Plugin Backdoor Puts Sites at Risk

A popular WordPress plugin called LA-Studio Element Kit has a secret backdoor that lets hackers create admin accounts without a password. This flaw allows attackers to take complete control of a website and change its content or steal information.

For Mission Teams

This security risk is dangerous because a hacker could take over your mission website to spread false information or steal seeker data. Teams should update or remove this plugin immediately and check their user lists for any suspicious new administrator accounts. This is also a good reminder that not all plug-ins are created equal. Each plugin, platform or software should be thoroughly vetted and tested before full adoption and regular audits and updates are recommended.

Meta Testing Premium Subscriptions Across Platforms

Meta is beginning to test new premium subscription options for users on Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. These paid tiers may offer exclusive features and different ways for users to interact within the apps beyond the standard free versions.

For Mission Teams

This change could affect how mission teams reach their audience if certain features or users move behind a paywall. Teams should monitor these updates to adjust their digital strategies and ensure their evangelism efforts remain effective for both free and premium users.

WhatsApp Adds New Strict Security Mode

WhatsApp has introduced a "Strict Account Settings" mode designed to protect users from advanced cyber attacks and spyware. This feature, found in the advanced privacy settings, locks your account to the most secure options and blocks files from people you do not know.

For Mission Teams

If this is true, this update is great for protecting the identity of team members and the seekers they contact in sensitive regions. Using this mode help harden the security of the platform for missions teams.

Understanding the Threads AI Ranking System

Buffer has created a handy guide to help users understand how the Threads AI ranking system works. Some of the most important factors include how much you interact with a profile on Instagram, the timeliness of your posts, and how often people click to view the replies on your threads.

Threads uses an AI system to decide which posts appear in the "For You" feed by looking at what you like and who you follow. The "Following" feed remains different because it shows posts from people you follow in the exact order they were posted.

For Mission Teams

Understanding these ranking signals helps teams focus on starting meaningful conversations that the AI will then promote to more seekers. While these points are a great starting place, teams can check out the full guide on Buffer's website if they want more detailed strategies for growth.

Replying to Instagram Comments Boosts Engagement

Buffer studied over 700,000 posts and discovered that replying to comments can increase your overall engagement by 21 percent. This simple habit works better than most complicated marketing tricks and helps your content reach more people.

For Mission Teams

Quickly answering comments shows the platform that your content is valuable, which helps your posts stay visible to more seekers. This strategy is essential for building real relationships with those who ask questions and ensures your mission team is seen as responsive and helpful.

Weekly Marketing Rundown - June 19, 2026
Weekly Marketing Rundown - June 19, 2026 Welcome to this week’s edition of Kavanah Media’s Weekly Marketing Rundown! This week, we're covering a packed news cycle for digital marketers, from Meta's sweeping AI push and the rollout of new creator tools and business agents across its platforms to Google's significant updates to ad bidding policies and platform terms ahead of an August deadline. Enjoying the Weekly Marketing Rundown? Support our work and keep it free for missions teams worldwide: https://www.kavanahmedia.com/donatetoKM Meta Platforms Hit by Major Global Outage On June 12, 2026, Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger went down for millions of users worldwide, with Downdetector logging over 100,000 Facebook problem reports by 10 a.m. ET. The outage lasted about four hours and also caused high disruptions to Meta Ads Manager, meaning advertisers could not run or manage campaigns during the blackout. For Mission Teams Mission teams around the world, including Kavanah Media, that rely on Meta platforms for digital outreach were forced to adjust ads, messaging, and other activities in response to the outage. Incidents like this highlight the importance of having backup communication channels in place, such as email lists or WhatsApp groups, for times when these platforms go down unexpectedly and communication cannot be delayed. https://www.tomsguide.com/news/live/meta-instagram-facebook-messenger-down-6-12-2026-live-updates Meta Launches New Community App Called Forum A few weeks ago Meta released a brand new app called Forum that works a lot like Reddit. This platform allows users to join different groups and have public discussions about topics they find interesting. For Mission Teams This new app gives ministries a fresh opportunity to connect with seekers and build communities around spiritual questions. The platform continues to grow in popularity, and as Groups become easier to access and engage with, Facebook Groups may become an increasingly viable tool for digital engagement. Missionaries raising support may also find value in the platform, as Facebook Groups can be used to communicate with supporters through this dedicated app. https://techcrunch.com/2026/05/22/meta-quietly-launches-a-new-reddit-like-app-called-forum/ UK Bans Social Media for Children Under 16 It finally happened. After months of discussion, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on June 15, 2026, that Britain will ban children under 16 from platforms including TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, X, and Snapchat, with enforcement directed at technology companies rather than children themselves. If approved by Parliament, the ban is expected to take effect in spring 2027. Messaging apps such as WhatsApp and Signal are not included. For Mission Teams While it remains unclear how the UK government will effectively enforce this ban, the broader lesson for digital engagement teams is how quickly platforms can be required to adapt in response to government regulations. Teams should plan for redundancy, ensure compliance with local and regional laws, and be prepared to pivot when significant policy or platform changes occur. https://www.npr.org/2026/06/15/nx-s1-5858644/britain-social-media-ban Google Ads Overhauls Bidding Rules Starting August 17 On June 15, 2026, Google announced three significant updates to Google Ads, including a new Bidding Target Optimization feature that will take effect on August 17. The update will automatically adjust budget-limited campaigns toward their stated performance targets. Advertisers also gained access to Smart Bidding Exploration globally, along with a new Promotion Mode beta that allows temporary budget increases to be scheduled around peak events. For Mission Teams For ministry teams running paid evangelism campaigns on Google, it is possible that these changes will have little immediate impact. Most of the updates are aimed at marketers focused on driving revenue and commercial conversions, which are not typically the primary objectives of mission teams and churches. Members of the Kavanah Media team are monitoring these developments closely to determine whether they warrant any adjustments to digital engagement strategies. Even so, teams that rely on Target CPA or ROAS bidding should review their settings before the August 17 deadline to avoid unexpected changes in campaign performance. This update also signals that Google is placing greater responsibility on advertisers to set accurate performance goals rather than relying on the platform to automatically exceed targets. https://www.digitalapplied.com/blog/google-ads-bidding-budgeting-overhaul-june-2026-ppc-playbook Google Updates Ads Terms to Cover AI-Powered Features Google updated its Google Ads Terms of Service effective July 1, 2026, expanding language to explain how advertiser-provided information, including conversational inputs, may be used across AI-powered and automated advertising tools. Advertisers retain responsibility for reviewing and approving any automatically generated campaigns or ad assets. For Mission Teams Organizations using Google Ads should review the updated terms carefully before July 1 to understand how their campaign data and inputs may be used by Google's AI systems. The article quotes one marketer as saying: "He pointed to new language authorizing Google to use automated features to format, select, or generate targets, ads, and destinations on an advertiser’s behalf, while advertisers remain responsible for the resulting campaigns." Similar to Meta, Google is clearly moving toward greater marketing automation. As these platforms continue to evolve, advertisers may find themselves with less direct control over automated tools and campaign optimization. Teams are encouraged to review the updated policy and audit their accounts and campaigns in July to better understand how these changes may affect their digital engagement efforts. https://searchengineland.com/google-ads-updates-terms-of-service-ahead-of-july-2026-rollout-479255 Google Expands Limited Ad Serving to Search Results Google officially updated its Limited Ad Serving policy on June 12, 2026, to cover additional scenarios on Google Search, meaning accounts flagged as less trustworthy will have their ads shown less frequently on certain search queries. The policy was originally introduced in 2023 for new advertisers and expanded to YouTube in 2024, making this the broadest enforcement step yet. For Mission Teams Newer or smaller ministry advertising accounts should maintain a clean account history and establish strong brand credibility to avoid being throttled under this policy, particularly when promoting events or outreach campaigns. Google considers several factors holistically, including user reports, account maturity, ad format usage, compliance history, industry, and verification status. However, Google does not disclose specific metrics or thresholds that trigger account reviews. https://www.digitalapplied.com/blog/google-limited-ad-serving-expands-search-2026-advertiser-guide Meta Launches AI Business Agents Across All Apps At its Conversations event in London, Meta announced the expansion of AI-powered business messaging agents across Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram. These agents can automatically answer customer questions, collect leads, and assist with bookings. Meta is also building deeper integrations with platforms such as Shopify and Zendesk to connect these agents with existing business systems. For Mission Teams Ministries and Christian nonprofits that receive frequent inquiries via Messenger or WhatsApp could potentially use these AI agents as online responders, though it remains to be seen how effective they will prove in practice. Several teams around the world leveraging similar chatbots report some success in filtering initial conversations, but human oversight remains critical. Others continue to raise concerns related to security, authenticity, AI hallucinations, and the theological implications of using AI chat agents in evangelism. Teams are encouraged to explore these tools to assess their viability, but thorough testing is strongly recommended. https://socialbee.com/blog/social-media-news/ Zero-Click Searches Now Account for 68 Percent of Google Traffic A new 2026 study by SparkToro found that 68 percent of all Google searches now end without any click leaving Google's ecosystem, meaning only 232 out of every 1,000 US Google searches result in a visit to an external website. Google's AI Mode and AI Overviews are keeping users inside Google rather than sending them to publisher sites. For Mission Teams This is a major wake-up call for any ministry or Christian organization relying on Google traffic to drive people to their website, as the traditional model of ranking on search to get visitors is fundamentally breaking down. Teams should explore building owned audiences through email lists, community apps, direct social channels, and paid ads so they are not fully dependent on search engine traffic. Additionally, optimizing sites for AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) could help to ensure site content is still referenced by agents when answering user questions. https://ignitevisibility.com/digital-marketing-news/ ChatGPT Ads Expand to New Markets OpenAI is expanding its ChatGPT advertising platform into five new countries: the UK, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, and Mexico. It is also testing a feature that displays multiple ads at once. The company is additionally adding new tools to help businesses better manage their advertising budgets and campaigns. For Mission Teams As AI platforms become increasingly popular places for people to search for answers, these new ad tools could offer a powerful way to reach spiritual seekers globally. Teams in these regions are encouraged to test the platform to assess its viability in their context. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/google-ads-news-week-24-adriaan-dekker-pqoze/ ShapedPlugin Security Compromise Hackers recently inserted malicious code into several premium WordPress plugins developed by a company called ShapedPlugin. The malware is designed to secretly steal user passwords and bypass additional security protections on affected websites. For Mission Teams A compromised ministry website could expose sensitive seeker information and significantly disrupt digital evangelism efforts. Teams using paid ShapedPlugin tools should immediately scan their sites for malware and update their software to help protect these important engagement platforms. This also serves as a reminder for teams using WordPress sites that even when best practices are followed in terms of cybersecurity and plugin selection, websites can still be compromised. You may research a plugin, monitor it, test it, and avoid installing plugins from untrusted sources, yet still be exposed if the plugin itself is compromised. Teams are encouraged to audit their sites, test plugins, and scan for signs of compromise. If you would like help ensuring your site is secure, we can assist—please reach out. https://www.wordfence.com/blog/2026/06/psa-supply-chain-compromise-targets-shapedplugin-backdoored-pro-plugins-distributed-via-official-channels/ Stay Equipped for Digital Engagement  Looking for ways to use digital tools to grow evangelism and disciple-making? Weekly Marketing Rundown - August 21, 2026
Weekly Marketing Rundown - August 21, 2026 Welcome to this week’s edition of Kavanah Media’s Weekly Marketing Rundown! We’re diving into the latest updates you need to know including changes to Google Search Ad Language targeting, Youtube Picture ads, new data privacy laws and more. Enjoying the Weekly Marketing Rundown? Support our work and keep it free for missions teams worldwide: https://www.kavanahmedia.com/donatetoKM Google Ads Retires Campaign-Level Language Targeting Google is updating its search ads by removing the setting that lets advertisers manually choose specific languages. Instead, Google's automated systems will now match people to ads based on the languages they already read and speak. For Mission Teams Mission teams leveraging Search Campaigns must ensure their digital ad text and landing pages are perfectly translated into their target audience's exact language. Because automated delivery could expose outreach campaigns to unintended or hostile groups, ministries must closely monitor their search traffic to protect their security and digital engagement strategies. https://www.searchenginejournal.com/google-is-removing-language-targeting-from-search-campaigns/585592/ OpenAI Introduces Carousel Ads to ChatGPT OpenAI is now letting companies show a scrolling list of products in their ChatGPT ads. This new format helps businesses display multiple items side-by-side to catch the attention of users chatting with the AI. For Mission Teams Mission teams could use these scrolling ads to share a variety of outreach resources, like scripture links and videos, in one engaging placement. https://digiday.com/marketing/openai-brings-product-carousels-to-chatgpt-ads/ New AI Disclosure Laws Reshape Digital Marketing New laws in Europe and California now require businesses to clearly label any pictures, videos, or sounds created by artificial intelligence. This means marketers must use special digital tags so that people always know when online content is computer-generated. For Mission Teams To safely find seekers and make disciples, mission teams operating in these jurisdictions must follow these new transparency rules whenever using artificial intelligence to create media for their digital evangelism campaigns. By honestly labeling their outreach content, ministries can build vital trust with cautious audiences while protecting their operational security from legal penalties or platform bans. https://www.thedrum.com/news/ai-disclosure-laws-arrive-in-the-eu-and-california-what-do-they-mean-for-marketers YouTube Mobile Tests New Overlay Picture Ads YouTube is testing new picture ads that pop up over the screen while people watch videos sideways on their phones. These still images appear every few minutes without stopping the video, giving advertisers a new way to show their messages. For Mission Teams Mission teams can use these new picture ads to add even more creative diversity to their add strategies on YouTube. https://ppcnewsfeed.com/ppc-news/2026-08/youtube-tests-image-ads-horizontal-mobile-playback/ New WhatsApp Security Warning System for Unverified Messages WhatsApp is testing a warning system to alert users when receiving messages from unverified contacts. The alert helps users identify potential scams before replying to unfamiliar accounts. For Mission Teams This new safety alert helps protect field workers from falling for phishing attempts on WhatsApp. However, new seekers contacting your ministry account for the first time may also see this security prompt. https://engineering.fb.com/2026/08/12/security/how-were-building-scam-alert-whatsapp/ Apple Issues Critical Spyware Threat Notifications Apple is alerting targeted iPhone users about sophisticated spyware attacks that could compromise their devices. These push notifications serve as critical warnings that hackers are actively attempting to steal personal information from specific individuals. For Mission Teams Particularly important for teams operating in sensitive fields with a high risk of nation-state interference, Apple’s security alerts should be taken seriously to protect digital networks and sensitive contacts. By securing devices immediately when warned, ministries can help prevent hostile actors from accessing their outreach campaigns and compromising their disciple-making efforts. https://techcrunch.com/2026/08/13/if-apple-sends-you-a-push-notification-alerting-you-to-a-spyware-attack-take-it-seriously/ Rise of Relatability Trends in Social Video Marketing Recent social media trends show that unpolished, relatable video content is outperforming high-budget advertisements. Audiences favor simple personal stories over formal corporate promotions. For Mission Teams Authentic videos recorded on a phone by real believers will likely connect better than expensive studio videos. Simple, honest video testimony builds trust faster with seekers browsing social media. https://bluehaloagency.com/news/social-media-trends-august-2026/ WhatsApp Introduces Usernames for Private Messaging WhatsApp is updating its app to let people save and use usernames instead of phone numbers. This change will soon allow users to chat with new contacts without sharing their personal phone details. For Mission Teams This is just the latest update related to WhatsApps' shift to usernames. Mission teams can use these new usernames to safely connect with seekers without revealing their real phone numbers. This update improves operational security while making it easier to share the gospel and disciple people in hostile areas. https://wabetainfo.com/whatsapp-launches-a-username-field-for-new-contacts/ YouTube Transforms Search with Conversational AI Chatbot YouTube is releasing a new tool across all devices that lets users ask questions and get helpful answers instead of just a list of videos. This smart chat feature remembers what you are talking about and acts more like a personal assistant than a regular search bar. For Mission Teams Ministries should closely monitor how their videos are tagged to ensure that artificial intelligence correctly identifies and recommends their biblical resources as potential seekers use the new integrated AI search feature. https://www.socialmediatoday.com/news/youtube-expands-access-to-its-in-app-ai-chatbot/827757/ Understanding Video View Counts Across Different Platforms Social media apps have very different rules for what they count as a video view. While some apps count a view the second a video starts, others require someone to watch for several seconds before it counts. Here are some examples: Facebook Reels: organic views count after just 1+ millisecond. Instagram Reels: organic views count as soon as a video starts or replays. YouTube: from 24 August, public views count from the first frame. YouTube Shorts: public views count immediately, including replays. TikTok: views count as soon as the video starts. YouTube ads: many only count after 30 seconds or an interaction. For Mission Teams Mission teams must understand these different rules so they can accurately track how many seekers are actually watching their digital evangelism videos. See the full list put together by Axios below: https://www.axios.com/media-trends-membership/2026/08/18/youtube-video-views Google Data Studio Adds New Reporting and Design Tools Google Data Studio updated its platform to make creating and viewing reports much easier. Users can now expand charts to full screen, copy visuals as pictures, and customize their report designs. For Mission Teams These design upgrades help ministry teams clearly track and evaluate how seekers engage with their online evangelism campaigns. Better visual reports allow leaders more options when reporting metrics. https://docs.cloud.google.com/data-studio/release-notes Polite Replies to Unknown Texts Can Cost You Replying to a text message from a stranger confirms that your phone number is active and monitored. Criminal syndicates use these polite responses to profile targets and sell verified numbers for higher prices on the dark web. For Mission Teams Workers should avoid responding to unexpected texts from unknown numbers while conducting online ministry. Maintaining strict boundary practices on mobile channels protects team members from targeted social engineering tactics and prevents ministry phone numbers from being further attacked and exploited. https://www.malwarebytes.com/blog/threat-intel/2026/08/your-polite-reply-to-that-text-is-worth-2-on-the-dark-web Mission Media U Practitioner Fellowship We live in a digital world.  But our discipling mandate hasn't changed.  Join our partners at Mission Media U for a two-month practitioner fellowship from 24-September to 19-November-2026 with a focus on Personal Digital Disciple-Making.  Limited seats available.  Submit your application today.   Learn more here: https://www.missionmediau.org/fellowship/ Stay Equipped for Digital Engagement  Looking for ways to use digital tools to grow evangelism and disciple-making?
