Weekly Marketing Rundown - January 9, 2025

Welcome to this week’s edition of Kavanah Media’s Weekly Marketing Rundown! We’re diving into the latest updates you need to know, including a new Creative Enhancement for Meta Ads Manager, scam ads, Microsofts latest Teams update and more.

Meta’s New Creative Enhancement

Meta has a new Creative Enhancement that automatically takes pictures and information from your website to put into your ads. It tries to find the best things on your page to show people so they will want to click on your message.

For Mission Teams

Like Google Ads, teams running traffic ads can use this creative enhancement to automatically pull images and text from their website for inclusion in certain ad placements.

Meta’s Struggle with Scam Advertisements

Meta chose to hide scam ads from government investigators instead of completely deleting all fraudulent content from its platforms. In Japan, this strategy helped the company avoid expensive verification rules that would have cost billions of dollars in lost revenue.

For Mission Teams

This update serves as a reminder that digital strategies are shaped by both social media platforms and government regulation. As privacy laws and policies continue to evolve, the platforms themselves—and how teams can use them—are subject to rapid change. Agility and flexibility are essential.

Microsoft Teams Boosts Messaging Defense

Microsoft is adding new safety features to Teams that will automatically block dangerous files and scan web links for hidden viruses. These updates are meant to stop hackers from using chat messages to trick people into visiting bad websites or downloading harmful software.

For Mission Teams

For teams and mission agencies using Microsoft’s systems, these automatic blocks help protect your team from digital attacks while you coordinate evangelism projects or communicate with new contacts.

For teams not using Microsoft’s ecosystem, this serves as an important reminder that no platform is secure indefinitely. Teams should take steps to ensure the security of the systems they use and practice good cybersecurity hygiene.

New WhatsApp Group Management Tools and Updates to Channels

WhatsApp has added new features like member tags, text stickers, and event reminders to help people stay organized in large chats. You can now label yourself with a specific role in each group and set early notifications for upcoming meetings or gatherings.

Additionally, quizzes are being introduced to WhatsApp Channels, enabling admins to create questions, multiple-choice answers, and more.

For Mission Teams

These tags give teams using WhatsApp Groups and/or WhatsApp Channels more options to engage audiences, track contacts, and even host events.

Meta’s Less Personalized Ad Option for Europe

Meta is giving people in Europe a new choice to see ads that are not based on their private data or personal interests. This change happened because of strict privacy laws that want to give users more control over how their online information is tracked and used.

For Mission Teams

This is a significant update. For teams in Europe, it will make it more difficult to reach seekers, as ads may no longer be delivered based on users’ previous interests. Teams will need to develop new strategies that rely on clear, compelling content to attract the right audience without depending on Meta’s automatic targeting.

AI Slop Dominates New YouTube Recommendations

Researchers found that more than one out of every five videos shown to brand new YouTube accounts is low-quality content generated by artificial intelligence. The study also revealed that these automated channels can post hundreds of videos a day to trick the system into showing them to more people.

For Mission Teams

This flood of automated content makes it harder for your genuine videos to be seen by seekers, as AI channels are overwhelming the platform’s search results. As previously covered, the rise of “AI slop” will likely make genuine content even more important and sought after. Even so, AI-generated content is driving engagement. Teams should be willing to experiment with AI-generated content, but never at the expense of genuine, authentic communication.

Meta Acquires AI Agent Startup, Manus

Meta has spent over two billion dollars to acquire a company called Manus, which builds highly capable AI assistants. This acquisition is part of Meta’s ongoing efforts to integrate AI across its platforms and expand its AI capabilities. Manus’s agents are known for performing practical tasks such as market research and data analysis. Meta plans to continue offering Manus’s platform as a service while also integrating the technology into its own platforms.

For Mission Teams

Meta's systems will continue to change as the company rolls out more AI integrations. Teams should be prepared to adjust as these systems evolve. Additionally, Meta's new privacy policy states that Meta may scrape AI chats for data—so while teams should experiment with these tools and adapt to changes in their context, they should also be cautious not to share sensitive information on AI platforms.

Meta Turns Off Ads

Have you ever logged onto Meta Ads Manager and noticed changes to your ad that you do not recall making? Well, it turns out Meta may be turning off ads. Meta has a new rule that automatically stops ads that do not get any results for fourteen days in a row. This change is meant to clean up your account by turning off ads that are not being shown to anyone or are not working well.

For Mission Teams

This update means your long-term ads for the gospel might suddenly stop running if they go two weeks without a click or a new contact. You must check your ads regularly to make sure your important messages are still active and create new versions if Meta turns your old ones off.

Google Expands AI Overview Ads Globally

Google is now placing advertisements within its AI-generated answers in eleven new countries including Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, Singapore, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. These ads are currently only appearing for people who have their language settings set to English on mobile or desktop devices.

For Missions Teams

Teams utilizing websites should take steps to ensure that their sites and content are not only optimized for search engines but also for AI tools that scrape the internet for answers to users’ questions. High-quality content that is properly optimized is more likely to be referenced by these bots.

Weekly Marketing Rundown - October 24, 2025 Welcome to this week’s edition of Kavanah Media’s Weekly Marketing Rundown! In this issue, we explore the Meta's new Andromeda system, the AWS outage, predictions for social media's future and more.  Enjoying the Weekly Marketing Rundown? Support our work and keep it free for missions teams worldwide: https://www.kavanahmedia.com/donatetoKM Meta AI Conversations Will Be Used for Ads Meta announced that starting December 16th, it will use your chats with Meta AI to help decide what content and ads you see. These AI conversations won’t directly create new ad targeting categories, but they will add to the data Meta already uses to personalize your experience. This move has sparked debate about whether AI chats should be treated like private messages or more like search history. For Mission Teams: Meta will have even more data to help match ads with the right people. It could improve ad performance, but teams should also be aware of privacy concerns and how users might react. Marketers may need to adjust strategies to stay transparent and build trust as AI becomes part of the ad targeting process. http://jonloomer.com/qvt/meta-ai-conversations-target-ads/ Big AWS Outage Shuts Down Websites and Apps Amazon Web Services (AWS) had a major outage that caused many websites and apps to stop working for several hours. The problem came from a network glitch, and it affected things like banking apps, streaming services, and company tools. AWS fixed the issue, but it showed how much the internet depends on their cloud system. For Mission Teams: If those tools go down, campaigns can pause, data can be lost, and users might have a bad experience. Teams should think about backup systems, check service status often, and plan for what to do if something like this happens again. https://www.techrepublic.com/article/news-aws-outage-2025/ Meta Andromeda: Why Mixing Up Your Ads Matters Meta’s new Andromeda system (the new ad delivery system) doesn’t just pick one “best” ad—it spreads out delivery across different versions to learn what works. Jon Loomer explains that advertisers should use a mix of creative types like different images, videos, headlines, primary text, calls-to-action, and formats (like single image vs. carousel). This helps Meta gather better data and avoid showing the same ad too often, which can make people stop paying attention. For Mission Teams: Teams should leverage different creative types and formats, enable Creative+ Enhancements and leveraging Adv.+ optimizations whenever possible as this approach can improve long-term ad performance and reach more people effectively. https://www.jonloomer.com/meta-andromeda-creative-diversification/ Meta Lead Ads: What’s Changing in October 2025 Meta is updating its Lead Ads system to give users more control over how their data is collected and used. Starting October 2025, advertisers must clearly explain why they’re asking for personal info and how it will be used. Meta will also require more transparency in lead forms and may limit how much data advertisers can collect without a clear reason. For Mission Teams: This matters for marketing teams because it changes how lead generation campaigns are built and approved. Teams will need to update their forms, rethink what data they really need, and make sure everything is easy for users to understand. It could also affect how quickly leads are collected and how much targeting data is available. https://giovanniperilli.com/en/blog/meta-lead-ads-october-2025-the-new-rules-and-what-really-changes/ No Consent, No Ads: Google’s New Privacy Rule Google now requires websites to follow the EU Consent Policy if you have end users in the EU—even for non-personalized ads. If your site doesn’t send proper consent signals, Google can suspend your entire ad account. To stay compliant, you should use a certified Consent Management Platform (CMP), check your consent setup in Google Tag Manager, and test it using GA4 DebugView and Ads consent mode reports. For Mission Teams: This is important for marketing teams because ignoring consent rules could shut down all ad activity. Teams should check their emails or Google Ads accounts to see if they have new Action Required notifications and also make sure their websites collect and send the right privacy signals, or risk losing access to Google Ads. Please reach out to us here at Kavanah Media if you need assistance with GDPR compliance. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/google-ads-news-week-42-adriaan-dekker-rn3qe/ Facebook’s “Group Highlights” Make Private Posts More Public Facebook’s new “Group Highlights” feature lets private groups share selected member posts outside the group. Members must give permission before their content is shown, and highlights can appear on the group’s front page, in Facebook search, or even on Google. AI may help pick which posts to show, but names and profile pictures are hidden for now. For Mission Teams: Missionaries utilizing Facebook groups in their digital engagement strategies can experiment with this feature to broaden their reach. However, they must proceed with caution, ensuring user consent and addressing security concerns. Furthermore, missionaries operating in secure areas should reassess the groups they follow to confirm that their sensitive information is not being shared publicly on the platform. https://www.facebook.com/help/970710061848673?cms_platform=iphone-app&helpref=platform_switcher What Social Media Might Look Like in 2026 This article from Social Media Today shares 36 predictions about how social media could change by 2026. Experts think platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook will focus more on AI, short videos, and private messaging. There’s also talk about more rules for content, better tools for creators, and new ways for people to shop directly through social apps. For Mission Teams: Some examples from the list include: AI-generated content becoming normal, private messaging replacing public posts, creators getting paid directly through platforms, and social apps becoming shopping hubs. These changes could affect how brands and mission teams handle digital security, ad targeting, and customer engagement. https://www.socialmediatoday.com/news/36-predictions-social-media-marketing-2026/802195/ Instagram Reels Tries Skippable Ads Like YouTube Meta is testing skippable ads on Instagram Reels, similar to how YouTube does it. Users will see a countdown before the ad starts and then get a “skip” button. Right now, creators won’t earn money from these ads, and Meta says the goal is to help businesses get noticed without annoying viewers. For Mission Teams: This test could change how ads are made and placed on Reels. It may push brands to create more engaging content quickly, since users can skip. https://www.adweek.com/media/meta-is-testing-skippable-ads-on-instagram-reels-borrowing-from-youtubes-playbook/ Marketers Still Trust Real People Over AI User-generated content (UGC)—like videos, reviews, and posts made by everyday people—is still the top choice for marketers. A recent report shows that 36% of marketers say UGC is extremely important, while only 2% feel that way about AI-generated content. Gen Z spends a lot of time watching UGC, showing that people want real, relatable content—not computer-made stuff. For Mission Teams: This suggests teams should consider pulling back on using AI to make content and leaning into user generated content. Localized authentic content is best, but teams working in secure fields should be cautious. As always, these findings are primarily based in Western markets. Teams should experiment in their own locations. https://content-naf.emarketer.com/social-media-strategists-value-ugc-over-ai Social Media Stops Sending Traffic to News Sites Social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram are sending way fewer clicks to news websites—down 30% since 2022. That’s a drop from 1.75 billion to 1.22 billion referrals. While platforms test new ways to boost link engagement, short videos and algorithm changes are making it harder for traditional news posts to get seen. Link-in-bio tools are growing, but they mostly help online shopping. For Mission Teams: Because social media platforms may limit the visibility of posts containing external links, marketing teams should think about alternative ways to share links — like putting them in bios or comments — to maintain reach and avoid algorithmic penalties. https://www.axios.com/newsletters/axios-media-trends-a6e42ba0-ae85-11f0-87d6-3dbac628b68f.html Stay Equipped for Digital Engagement  At Kavanah Media, we’re committed to helping mission teams use digital tools to make God known around the world. Weekly Marketing Rundown - June 12, 2026
Weekly Marketing Rundown - June 12, 2026 Welcome to this week’s edition of Kavanah Media’s Weekly Marketing Rundown! We’re diving into the latest updates you need to know including a massive Microsoft Patch Tuesday with three zero-day vulnerabilities, sweeping changes to Google Ads tracking, new guidance on Google's Personalized advertising policy, and new AI-powered tools arriving across TikTok and Facebook that mission teams need to understand. Enjoying the Weekly Marketing Rundown? Support our work and keep it free for missions teams worldwide: https://www.kavanahmedia.com/donatetoKM Meta Adds Incognito Mode to WhatsApp's Meta AI Chatbot Meta is adding the ability for WhatsApp users to start private, off-the-record conversations with its built-in Meta AI assistant. These incognito sessions will not be tied to a user's account history or conversation logs. For Mission Teams This feature could increase willingness among seekers in sensitive regions to ask spiritual questions through WhatsApp AI without fear of it being recorded. Teams building WhatsApp-based outreach funnels should familiarize themselves with how Meta AI responds to faith-related prompts. https://about.fb.com/news/2026/05/incognito-chat-whatsapp-meta-ai/ TikTok Adds Seedance 2.0 AI Video Model to Ad Suite TikTok has integrated ByteDance's Seedance 2.0 AI video generation model into its TikTok Symphony advertising toolkit, allowing advertisers to produce AI-generated video content directly within the platform. The tool can generate clips from text descriptions or reference images. For Mission Teams This lowers the barrier for producing video ad content, which could benefit teams with limited production budgets. Because TikTok is owned by ByteDance, teams should continue using it only on dedicated devices that do not contain sensitive ministry contacts or communications. https://socialbee.com/blog/tiktok-updates/ TikTok Expands Advertiser Reach Through Vistar Media Partnership TikTok has partnered with Vistar Media to extend advertiser placements to over one million locations beyond the app itself. This means TikTok-based campaigns can now appear across a much broader digital out-of-home and programmatic network. For Mission Teams This expansion could increase the visibility of gospel-focused content beyond TikTok's in-app audience, reaching people in public spaces and third-party digital environments. Teams should weigh whether the broader reach justifies the added cost and reduced audience targeting precision. https://www.socialmediatoday.com/topic/tiktok/ Google Ads Removes Manual Override for Consent and Tracking on June 15 Starting June 15, 2026, Google is removing the ability for Google Analytics settings to override Google Ads data collection behavior. If a website's consent banner is not correctly configured by that date, ad reporting, audience building, and return-on-ad-spend measurement could all be affected without any dashboard warning. For Mission Teams Teams running Google Ads campaigns with consent banners on their ministry websites need to verify their tracking setup before June 15. Misconfigurations could result in lost audience data and inaccurate reporting that silently undermines campaign performance. https://www.thedrum.com/profile/launch-online/article/how-google-s-june-2026-change-could-silently-kill-your-ad-tracking-and-what-to-do-about-i-1 Microsoft Patches 206 Vulnerabilities in June 2026 Patch Tuesday, Including Three Zero-Days Microsoft released its June 2026 security updates covering 206 vulnerabilities across Windows, Office, and other products. Three of these were publicly disclosed zero-days, and the update includes fixes for 37 critical-severity issues spanning remote code execution, privilege escalation, and information disclosure. For Mission Teams Teams managing Windows devices for field staff or administrative work should apply these updates immediately, particularly given the active exploitation of several disclosed vulnerabilities. Delaying patches on devices that handle sensitive ministry data or communications creates unnecessary risk. https://www.crowdstrike.com/en-us/blog/patch-tuesday-analysis-june-2026/ Hateful Comments on Facebook Have Quadrupled Since 2025 Facebook Hateful Comments Have Quadrupled Since 2025 A new report from the Center for Countering Digital Hate released June 10, 2026, found that hateful comments on Facebook against US congress members have quadrupled since 20250 when Meta rolled back moderation policies. For Mission Teams While the study focuses primarily on political comments in Western contexts, Meta's rollback of moderation tools could contribute to similar increases in hateful comments worldwide- even in the context of digital engagement. Teams should be prepared to ramp up their own comment moderation efforts and consider enabling automatic filters for harmful language. https://counterhate.com/blog/violent-threats-against-members-of-congress-quadrupled-after-meta-rolled-back-moderation-policies/ Google Updates Advertising Rules for Sensitive Topics Google updated its rules to explain how ads reach people when promoting sensitive topics like health or personal problems. This update does not add new rules, but it explains why some ads might reach fewer people than expected. For Mission Teams If your digital engagement strategy is leveraging Google ads, you likely fall under the Religious Beliefs Policy. Your strategies, content, and ads must comply. Click the second link for more information regarding each policy, possible restrictions, details, and mitigation options. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/google-ads-news-week-23-adriaan-dekker-5rfle/ https://support.google.com/adspolicy/answer/143465?hl=en Yoast AI Content Planner Automates Blog Post Drafts Yoast recently launched an artificial intelligence tool that scans your website to suggest five structured ideas for your next post. This helpful feature saves time and prevents writer's block by automatically building ready-to-write drafts with titles, headings, and notes. For Mission Teams This tool can boost your digital strategy for finding seekers by quickly generating engaging articles that answer common spiritual questions. However, you must carefully review these automated drafts for any sensitive words to maintain strict security while safely making disciples online. https://yoast.com/features/content-planner/ Meta's New Push Delivery Feature Guarantees Ad Views Meta added a new advertising tool that lets you force their system to show a specific ad instead of skipping it. This update gives you direct control over your daily budget to make sure your most important messages are actually seen. For Mission Teams This tool guarantees your digital evangelism ads reach new seekers even when standard social media algorithms try to ignore them. By forcing delivery on specific ads, you can securely test new strategies for making disciples while carefully monitoring audience engagement. https://www.jonloomer.com/hands-on-push-delivery-to-this-ad/ Meta Launches AI Business Agent Globally on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger Meta announced the global availability of its Meta Business Agent on June 3, 2026, at the company's Conversations conference in London. The platform enables businesses of any size to deploy AI-powered agents across WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger. These agents are designed to manage customer conversations, qualify leads, and support sales processes with minimal human involvement. The agent's capabilities include fielding customer inquiries, suggesting products from a catalog, scheduling appointments, vetting sales leads, and completing transactions, with a handoff mechanism that lets the agent escalate to a live employee once conversations reach a point that the owner defines. For Mission Teams According to Meta, businesses are already using a Meta Business Agent on WhatsApp and Messenger to respond to customers. It is yet to be extensively tested in a mission digital engagement strategy context, but there is potential it could prove very beneficial. Members of the Kavanah Media team hope to begin testing shortly. Teams are encouraged to test the tool cautiously, as AI can, and still does, hallu https://techcrunch.com/2026/06/03/metas-ai-agent-for-whatsapp-business-is-now-available-globally/ Instagram Hack Highlights AI Security Risks Hackers tricked a new artificial intelligence tool to steal thousands of important Instagram accounts by changing their private email addresses. Even though personal information was stolen, the company plans to fix the mistake without slowing down their new technology. For Mission Teams This security failure shows why your team must carefully protect the social media accounts you use to find seekers online. You must secure your digital evangelism profiles with strong passwords and extra safety steps to safely continue making disciples without losing access to your audience. It also shows how bad actors are leveraging AI to exploit weaknesses at unprecedented levels, and how those same AI tools introduce vulnerabilities. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/09/technology/instagram-hack-ai-bug.html Stay Equipped for Digital Engagement  Looking for ways to use digital tools to grow evangelism and disciple-making?
