Weekly Marketing Rundown - November. 8th, 2024

Hi everyone, In this week's edition of Kavanah Media's Weekly Marketing Rundown we will discuss Chat GPT's new search function, Instagrams growing user base in the EU and more.

ChatGPT Search Officially Launches

OpenAI has officially added a new feature to ChatGPT, allowing it to search the web for real-time information. This means that users can now get current answers directly from the internet. Currently, the tool includes up to date information with weather, stocks, sports, news, and maps, and it cites sources through inline citations and a "Sources" button.

While currently limited to those categories, this trend will likely continue. It's important for mission teams to ensure their websites are optimized for indexing by search bots. This will help their content be more easily found by people searching for information online. Conversely, AI web search tools could prove to be more efficient than a standard search engine for online responders who are wanting to find information quickly.

Instagram Now Has More Users Than Facebook in the EU

Instagram now has more active users than Facebook in the European Union. According to Meta's latest report, Instagram has 269.1 million monthly users, while Facebook has 260.6 million.

This shift is important for mission teams because it shows where people are spending more time online. However, just because Instagram has a larger user base doesn't mean teams should focus only on Instagram. In Kavanah Media's testing, Facebook continues to outperform Instagram in total messages received, message quality, and cost. This is likely due to differences in how people use the platforms. People are less likely to engage with evangelism ads on Instagram. Therefore, it's recommended to test with both platforms to see which works best for your context.

Instagram Plans to Use AI to Catch Teens Lying About Age

Instagram is planning to use artificial intelligence (AI) to detect when teens lie about their age. This new feature aims to make the platform safer for younger users by ensuring that only those who meet the age requirements can access certain content. The AI will analyze various factors to determine if a user is being truthful about their age.

This development is significant because in some countries, such as Türkiye, proselytizing people under 18 years old is illegal. The more effectively Meta is able to limit ads being served to those 18 and under, the more missions teams can rest assured that the seeker they are corresponding with is a legal adult.

Weekly Marketing Rundown - March 14, 2025 Hi everyone! In this week's edition of Kavanah Media's Weekly Marketing Rundown we discuss the rise of AI based hacks, the FCC's response to Europe's pressure on Meta, TikTok's uncertain future and more.  Enjoying the Weekly Marketing Rundown? Support our work and keep it free for missions teams worldwide: https://www.kavanahmedia.com/donatetoKM AI-Powered Cyber Attacks on the Rise A recent report reveals that 87% of security professionals have encountered AI-driven cyber-attacks in the past year. These attacks include deepfake phishing, automated hacking attempts, and AI-enhanced malware. While organizations are also using AI for defense, the rapid evolution of attack methods makes staying ahead a constant challenge. Missions organizations often face staffing and funding challenges, making cybersecurity a lower priority. However, AI-powered threats increase the risk, making strong security measures essential. Teams should focus on multi-factor authentication, regular security training, and active monitoring for suspicious activity. https://www.infosecurity-magazine.com/news/majority-of-orgs-hit-by-ai/ FCC Supports Meta’s Pushback Against EU Rules The U.S. FCC is backing Meta in its resistance to the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA), which enforces stricter regulations on content moderation and user data handling. Meta argues these rules unfairly limit its ability to personalize experiences, while European regulators see them as essential for user privacy and online safety. This legal battle could impact how platforms operate globally. For mission teams using paid ads, this could affect audience targeting in the EU and possibly set a precedent for other regions as more changes are expected. https://www.socialmediatoday.com/news/fcc-backs-meta-pushback-eu-rules-dsa/741563/ Meta AI Expands Customer Support tools for Small Businesses Meta is rolling out AI-powered customer support tools for small businesses on Facebook and Instagram. These AI agents can answer customer inquiries, assist with orders, and automate responses, reducing the need for direct human involvement. While most missions teams are not selling products, there is still potential that this AI could streamline engagement with seekers by handling initial conversations, providing automated responses to common questions, and directing users to Gospel resources. This could free up time for deeper, more personal follow-ups while maintaining a constant digital presence. https://www.fastcompany.com/91290233/meta-ai-customer-support-agent-for-small-businesses-instagram-facebook Instagram Shares Tips for Maximizing Reels Engagement Instagram has released insights on how to make Reels perform better, based on recent trends and algorithm updates. Key takeaways include keeping content engaging within the first few seconds, using on-screen text, and leveraging trending audio. The platform also recommends creating Reels that are between 30 and 90 seconds for the best engagement. For mission teams using Instagram, this means focusing on short, engaging videos that quickly capture attention. Using subtitles, eye-catching visuals, and relevant audio can increase reach. https://www.socialmediatoday.com/news/instagram-reels-tips-3-minutes-unfiltered-nyc/741722/   TikTok’s Future in the U.S. Remains Uncertain Negotiations between TikTok and U.S. lawmakers have stalled, leaving the platform’s fate unclear as a potential ban deadline approaches. While TikTok has made efforts to address security concerns, including storing U.S. user data domestically, regulatory pressure remains. For mission teams, this uncertainty underscores the importance of diversifying digital strategies. Relying solely on one platform for outreach could be risky and teams should explore alternative platforms. https://www.socialmediatoday.com/news/tiktok-us-deal-stalls-ban-deadline/741816/   Intentional - Kavanah Media's Newsletter Subscribe to Intentional, Kavanah’s monthly newsletter, and stay inspired by stories of lives transformed, ministry milestones, and the latest business updates on how we’re intentionally leveraging digital platforms to make God known across the globe. Weekly Marketing Rundown - November 1st, 2024
Weekly Marketing Rundown - November. 1st, 2024 Hi everyone, In this week's edition of Kavanah Media's Weekly Marketing Rundown we will discuss Meta's secret roll out of automatic ad adjustments, Instagram's throttle of video quality, Youtube's new stickers and more. Meta’s New AI Search Engine Meta is developing an AI-powered search engine to provide users with more direct answers to their questions. Currently, Meta’s AI Chat, available on all its platforms, relies on Google and Microsoft for web searches. However, Meta intends to shift away from these external search engines and use its own so as to not be dependent. This shift highlights the importance of mission teams maintaining their own websites. As Meta’s AI Chat improves its functionality and access to the open web, mission teams’ evangelistic websites could become more accessible to seekers searching for spiritual content. Having an up to date accurate website and allowing your website to be indexed by both search engine and AI bots may enable AI tools to incorporate your content with those asking faith-related questions. For more on this, click the link below: https://www.theverge.com/2024/10/28/24282017/meta-ai-powered-search-engine-report Meta’s Automatic Ad Adjustments Meta is introducing automatic adjustments to ad accounts, allowing its system to tweak ad settings like pausing campaigns, consolidating ad accounts and audience segments, targeting, and even budgeting without notifying users. These adjustments aim to improve ad performance by responding to how audiences interact with ads in real-time. However, some marketers worry that this automation may reduce control over campaigns and affect ad goals. For mission teams using Meta ads to reach people online, this could be a helpful tool but also a potential challenge. Automatic adjustments might improve ad effectiveness. However, less control over targeting could mean that ads are shown to unintended audiences, which could reduce campaign effectiveness. Staying informed on how Meta’s system adjusts your ads and setting clear objectives will be key to maximizing impact. For more on this, click the link below: https://searchengineland.com/meta-automatic-adjustments-ad-accounts-concerns-447720 Instagram’s Video Quality Adjustments Instagram is now lowering video quality for less popular posts to reduce data costs, focusing higher resolution on content with more views. This could limit visibility for smaller accounts and less popular posts. For mission teams, this means that videos with fewer initial views might appear in lower quality, which could affect engagement. Changes like this continue to make organic campaigns challenging. While organic posting is important, paid advertising should not be overlooked, as it can help ensure mission messages reach audiences with optimal quality and visibility.  For more on this, click the link below:  https://www.theverge.com/2024/10/27/24280968/instagram-video-quality-lower-for-less-popular-videos YouTube’s New Poll Stickers and Ad Controls YouTube has introduced poll stickers for Shorts, allowing creators to engage viewers with interactive polls. Additionally, channels can now block specific ad categories, giving them more control over the ads displayed alongside their content. For mission teams, poll stickers can foster audience interaction on faith topics, while blocking unwanted ad categories helps maintain a focused message. These features offer valuable tools for enhancing engagement and clarity on YouTube.
